Before Senate Private Health Insurance Amendment (Modernising the Private Health Insurance Rebate) People aged 65 and over will no longer receive a larger private health insurance rebate because of their age. Their rebate will instead be calculated on the same income-based scale as for people under 65. At the base income level, the current rebate is about 28% for people aged 65 to 69 and 32% for people aged 70 and over, compared with 24% for people under 65.
